Magus, you're the one proposing forcing a house rule onto the entire playerbase to suit your tastes, here.

So in effect, you literally are pushing your idea of fun as being 'proper' - in contravention of the Rules As Written.

RAW doesnt touch on PvP.

So, not really in this case.

Sanctity of Merits is RAW.

Saying "Sanctity of Merits doesn't apply in X situation" is thus a contravention of it, and not universally desired or welcome, thus is the very definition of "forcing playstyle on others."

Nowhere in this book does it mention a thing about whether or not it has application in matters of PvP, mostly because it doesn't really mention PvP, at all.

We are discussing a situation unique to the chat itself, not represented or dealt with in the books. If it was addressed, we wouldn't be having this discussion.

If they still made LARP books, we might se a actual rule on the matter.

So rather than assume, logically, 'loss of merits' also means 'loss of merits to PvP' we should assume, according to your rather desperate grasping to force unneeded house rules, that it means 'there is an exception to this for Player on Player inflicted losses, because."

Sounds legit.

Nothing positive comes of this. Not one thing. The only applications are to empower PvPing - by intent - when all it will do is make most shy away from setting involvement and just become inclined to roll a combat monster to shoot the "I can make you lose XP permanently, trololol!" PC in the face.

The negatives are great, and the 'benefits'... niche-appealing at best.

Thanks everyone for their feedback on the topic/suggestion.

While we are introducing a potential avenue for story and resources driven inter-character conflict or alliance, PVP has never really been a focus of WantonWicked for the simple reason that it exists on its own for those who want to participate in it, and it is fairly easily avoided by those who do not.

For this, and many other reasons, Sanctity of Merits applies as written in the simple, straight forward way that it was written and intended.

This topic digressed quickly and a major contributing factor to this is the worry and/or actuality of one person or group imposing their play style or preferences on others who disagree. This is a cooperative game. You will find people who love what you love. You will find people who hate what you love. You will find people who don't give a rat's patoot about what you love because what you love doesn't have any effect on what they love. You have to be able to accept this fact.

It isn't coddling. It isn't playing to the lowest denominator. It isn't hand holding. It's responsible game playing. In order that everyone have fun, everyone having fun needs to be everyone's goal. It's surprisingly easy how little it takes to support others in this shared game.

This game may not end up being for everyone. There may be folks who want a much more aggressive game play experience where it's everyone for themselves. There may be folks who want a much more peaceful game play experience where everyone's character is friends with everyone else and the only villain to worry about is what the ST comes up with. (And a rainbow in between of preferences). Because of this, you may choose for yourself that this isn't the game/site for you. We hope it is, but if it isn't - that isn't a bad thing. We hope you find your fun wherever you can. You are always free to make this decision for yourself. You cannot make this decision for other people. Simple? Simple.

I'm locking this thread because I think the points that were needed for the original topic have been made.

Thanks!
